				Before we went on stage in college to perform, we would just say merde.  No "break a leg's" or any of that.  Just shit.

				He also had that friday performance and the competition this weekend. 
Also yes in many cases Monologues are much better for the first judging and cold reading at callbacks. but that's often in school, or a company, occasionally even professional. This however was community theatre and is typical.
Though In my experience you should be very careful performing monologues you have written yourself.

				It does make a difference if the director is familiar with your work as far as auditions go, too.

Eh? Désolée!  Je suis un étudiant de français, et ma prof le nous dit.  Mais, il peut avoir tort, non?
EDIT: In a theatrical note, I am co-stage managing a production of "The Madwoman of Chaillot"  it looks to be a good show, though the play is very short.  It is absolutely hilarious!
