Oh my god! I'm so sorry!
I've never had anyone close to me affected by a disease as such, but a lot of people in my family have had cancer at least once in their life or already have it, so I know what it's like to lose a loved one to a disease. *hugs* I wish all the best to you, your family, his family, and anyone that so much as met him. I know how much it hurts.
*hugs*
I lit a candle and called several of my friends and asked them to. I didn't hang up until I was positive that all of them did.

Ahh damn... I'm so sorry girl.
My ultimate goal in life is to become a biomedical engineer and get to work on cures for cancer and AIDS/HIV... and it seems like the closer I get to my goal, the more people I at least know of fall ill with what I want to someday treat.
I'll go light a candle. My prayers are with you and your friend.

that's terrible. I am very sorry.
however, not to be a downer, but the virtual candle charity deal was that for every candle lit Bristol-Myers would donate $1 to HIV/AIDS research, but only for the first 100,000 candles/dollars. That number was reached long ago (which is great!) so they aren't currently making any donations.

BUT it's still a great thing for awareness, etc., and maybe BM will decide to make further donations in response to the incredible number of people who have participated.
And I still lit a candle anyway.
